Director

One of the greatest ways I got around the suppression of creativity in school was to create video essays, resulting in the accidental discovery of my life’s passion. 18 years on I’m still making short films whenever I can find an excuse.

A short doco shot in Thailand that I directed, DP’d, produced and edited.

Directed everything after the opening scene, completely self funded, Chikas was shot over a series of months.

Current Project.

I am currently editing together my first art documentary “An Exercise in Empathy”. I asked a co-worker, stranger, friend and partner to tell me a story from their lives that evokes a powerful emotion, and respond with an improvised composition based on how it made me feel. An art installation is supposed to be something that can’t be recreated, that is different every time and is inherently human. Each music piece was done in 1 take and I couldn’t re-play them if I tried. This installation is something that is and will always be unique with each different interaction, it’s impermanent and helped me learn to listen.

More stuff I directed:

Directed everything after the opening scene.

Directed everything from here onward, don’t be confused. It’s okay. I understand.

My personal favourite of all the episodes, bilingual, personal, emotional with beautiful performances from Melody Ha & Genevieve Craig.

30 people on set is a terrible idea! But we killed it. Probably our most popular episode with a brilliant monologue by Ben Wang.

Our first cinema screening of Chikas. I edited this one! Shot by Faiyaz Gazi.

A behind the scenes video of Chikas, directed and edited by little old me.

A candid conversation about the directing process for Chikas
